My Documents screen

As mentioned earlier, the My Documents screen is where you access your saved spreadsheets, and create new ones. You can also create folders in which to store your spreadsheets, delete spreadsheets and access your Google Documents account from this screen.

Creating folders

To create a new folder, tap the New Folder button, tap the Folder Name field, enter a name for your folder, then tap the Save button (or the Cancel button to return to My Documents).

Your new folder will now be listed on the My Documents screen.

You can create sub-folders by first tapping the folder name in My Documents, then tapping the New Folder button within the folder you are viewing.

Creating a spreadsheet

To create a new spreadsheet, tap the New Spreadsheet button on the My Documents screen. This will create your new spreadsheet at the top level. You can also tap a folder name to navigate to where you want the spreadsheet to be stored before tapping New Spreadsheet. Whilst navigating your folders, tapping the .. button will take you up a level.

Your new blank spreadsheet will be displayed.

Working with spreadsheets is described later in this document. Right now, let’s assume you’ve entered some data on your spreadsheet and want to save it.

Saving your spreadsheet

Tap the iSpreadsheet button in the top left corner of the screen. A menu will slide up showing the following options:

Saving to Google Documents

To save your spreadsheet to Google Documents, tap the Save As button in the save menu.

Enter a filename, then tap Done to close the keyboard.

Tap Google Sync. If this is the first time you have connected to Google Documents since launching iSpreadsheet, you will be asked to enter your login ID and password, then tap Login.

Note: If you do not have a Google Documents account you can tap Create New Account to open a web page in your device’s web browser allowing you to create an account.

You will be notified if your login details were incorrect, or you do not have an active network connection.

A status indicator shows the progress of the file upload to Google Documents. The message Upload Complete indicates the your spreadsheet has been successfully saved to Google Documents.

Choosing to save to Google Documents also saves the spreadsheet to you’re My Documents area.

Back at the Save As screen you can now tap Cancel to return to your spreadsheet.

Opening spreadsheets

To open an existing spreadsheet for viewing or editing, tap the spreadsheet title in My Documents, tapping folder names to navigate to the spreadsheet’s location if required first.

Opening spreadsheets in Google Documents

If the spreadsheet you want to view or edit is stored in Google Documents, tap the Google G button in the top right of the My Documents screen.

If this is the first time you have connected to Google Documents since launching iSpreadsheet, you will be asked to enter your login ID and password, then tap Login.

Note: If you do not have a Google Documents account you can tap Create New Account to open a web page in your device’s web browser allowing you to create an account. You will be notified if your login details were incorrect, or you do not have an active network connection.

Your Google Documents file list is displayed upon successful connection.

To open a document in your Google Documents list, it must be downloaded to My Documents. Tap the blue > button next to the required document, then tap the Download button on the following screen.

A status indicator shows the progress of the file download. The message Download Complete indicates the your spreadsheet has been successfully saved to Google Documents.

Navigate back to My Documents by tapping the Google Docs back button, followed by the iSpreadsheet back button. The spreadsheet you have just downloaded from Google Documents will now be listed in My Documents.

Deleting spreadsheets

Spreadsheets can be deleted from both My Documents and Google Documents.

Whichever documents list you are viewing, tap the red – button on the left of the spreadsheet you wish to delete. Tap the button again if you want to cancel, or tap the Delete button that appears to the right of the spreadsheet name to confirm that you want to delete it.

Documents.cfg

After accessing Google Documents you will notice a file named Documents.cfg appear in My Documents. This file stores your Google Documents login details. Deleting this file will result in you having to enter your login details again the next time you access Google Documents.
